Sassy in Your Step - Get Moving Monday

Change how you walk and change how you feel. How do you walk? Do you saunter, wiggle, slide, sludge, or skip along? How you walk says a lot about you, what you are feeling, and even how good you feel about yourself. What does your walk say about you? Are you dragging your feet because you aren't happy about where you are going in life? Think for a moment about how you walk and what message you are broadcasting to the world. Do you walk fast, slow or somewhere in the middle?

Every time you take a step this week pay attention and walk consciously. How do you place your feet on the ground? Does your whole body move as you walk or are you rather stiff, holding onto old stuck energy? You probably haven't thought that much about how you walk. Take the time this week to notice what you are saying through your body.

Make this your best week ever!

Creating Change - Shadow Prompt 1

If you would like to create change in your life, exploring your shadow through journaling and writing is a great beginning. I know you are tired of floating along and never quite feeling whole, wanting more for your life and this is the year to create that change.

I will give you one prompt a week to discover, uncover, heal, clear and integrate your shadow. With each weekly Shadow Prompt write for a minimum of ten minutes without stopping. Just write whatever comes up for you and if you think your mind is blank then start writing whatever you hear, see, taste, feel, (I hear, I see, I wonder, I am, I can, I feel, I taste) until you are connected in and writing about the prompt. Exploring your shadow can be intense, remember to be compassionate on your journey, take your time, and find ways to honor your process.

What are you avoiding most in your life and what small step can you take to resolve/clear it? Explore what it is that you think has stopped you from clearing it up before now. How have you been numbing yourself to avoid the situation?

Change Your Mood - Get Moving Monday

Music is a great way to change your mood. Right now during this triple retrograde period it can be easy to allow yourself to feel angry and irritable. It is hard to get moving unless you change your mood. Music is a great way to get out of my own way and feel better. Here are wonderful Music Videos to help improve your mood and get you moving again. Remember, when you are moving your energy is moving and helping you to stay clear, to accomplish all that you want and need to accomplish.

I hadn't heard this song before but I love it, I hope you enjoy it too!

This song always puts me in a better mood. Jump up and down and sing it with attitude!

Maybe this will create a spark to make a change in your life.

Embracing Change in the Shadows - Saying Goodbye to February

This past month I have been diving deep into the shadows to discover my authentic voice for my writing. I journeyed with shadow into music and movement. I have determined to never get on a scale again and to look at how I am feeling and use movement to feel better. February has been an enlightening month filled with changes; understanding my body and learning to treat it as the sacred vessel that it is.

I have been learning how to balance movement with my writing and not always being successful but always trying to be compassionate about it.

I haven't created as much art but I did get myself an offline art journal that I have explored and enjoy.

My shadow walking really helped me to see different aspects of myself and decipher how I want to proceed with this and my other blogs. I am quite pleased about that.

One major discovery for Shadow Rhythms is how important it is to me that I help people understand their shadow and how to work with it. This site will continue to be donation only for that purpose. This site is definitely about my acts of selfless service to help you change how you feel about your body, mind and spirit through working with shadow. Please do not hesitate to ask questions and leave comments about any of the topics here at Shadow Rhythms. It is my pleasure to help answer them for you if I am able, or point you in a direction where you can find the answers for yourself.

Mercury Retrograde - Triple Shadow Period

Once again Mercury Retrograde is coming upon us. It is currently moving into the Shadow energies and will be fully within it on March 12, 2012. Saturn and Mars are also currently in Retrograde giving us three planets  in shadow periods at the same time; a triple shadow. This isn't a time to be hiding and pulling the covers over your head. It is a time to consciously be working your stuff and clearing it. It is a time to really dig deep.

I have decided to share a list of all of my Retrograde posts for you to be able to work this intense period consciously. After all, with all three in Retrograde it makes this a powerful time to be clearing these energies instead of ignoring them, and will allow you to get back on track walking your purpose. Music Your Parents Listened to - Get Moving Monday

I was feeling a little nostalgic over the weekend and found myself listening to music that my parents played when I was a child. Big Bad John by Jimmy Dean was one of them. Going in search of him I discovered he was a cousin to James Dean the actor. I had no idea.

Jimmy Dean was one of my dad's favorites and I knew his songs well. I was always a sucker for storytelling songs. When I think of it my parents listened to a lot of that.

Cat Stevens is another singer from that time period of my life but I honestly don't know which of my parents liked it, I just remember hearing it and wanting more.

But I must say that my favorite storytelling songs were from Harry Chapin.

I loved listening to Harry, his songs weren't happy songs but they always made me feel something deep inside. I remember the day he passed and I was sad that I never got to see him in concert. Now through the amazing internet I can finally see him sing.

I enjoy all different kinds of music but I believe that the music my parents listened to fostered a love of storytelling songs in me. A couple of my favorite storyteller singers now are Emmy Lou Harris and Alison Krauss. Here is a song they sang together with Gillian Welch.

I have been trying to keep Get Moving Monday light but in truth when we are dealing with our bodies there is a lot of shadow that affects how we think, view and feel about it and how we move. Remember to be kind on your journey exploring movement and have compassion for your process.

There is much to look forward to when working with shadow, in various forms, and music is definitely a good way to work with shadow. When you think of the music your parents listened to what does it bring up for you? If it is triggering in any way it is an opportunity for letting go. Triggers always equal opportunities for inner understanding and clearing of what no longer serves you. May you release what no longer serves your greater good through dance and movement.
